Ecology of Medicinal Plantago Species in Kohgiluyeh & Boyer-Ahmad Province, Iran

Abstract

Kohgiluyeh & Boyer-Ahmad Province has good potential for planting medicinal plants, given its climatic diversity and diverse plant cover, and therefore, locating medicinal plants based on climatic zoning is of particular importance. One of the plant species for cultivation in rainy conditions in the Kohgiluyeh & Boyer Ahmad province is the medicinal plant Plantaginaceae. In this study, the vegetation cover in this reserve was investigated and studied through field surveys during the growing seasons of 2023. Plantago psyllium L., Plantago lanceolata L., and Plantago lagopus L. can be placed in the one and two climate zones of this province. Plantago major L. is located in zone 1 of climatic zoning. Plantago ovata grows in Iran at altitudes above 2,500 meters in the Kohgiluyeh-Boyer Ahmad province. Also, Plantago lanceolata L. and Plantago major L. are located in one climate zone. Also, these plants (Plantago ovata, Plantago lanceolata L., and Plantago major L.) can be placed in the fourth zone (cold and semi-rainy). Therefore, on this basis, Plantago ovata, Plantago psyllium, Plantago lanceolata, and Plantago lagopus are suggested for rainfed cultivation in this province in four seasons.
